Sky Arts, part of the Sky TV package in the UK has unveiled a competition to search for the next ‘Master of Photography.’ Have you entered yet?
There’s a gigantic prize for the winner of €150,000. That’s more than enough to buy several of the latest Phase One bodies. Unfortunately it’s only open to European entries over the age of 18.
We checked the small print to see if there was any kind of “right’s grab”.
Here’s the important bit:
By participating in the Contest, the Candidates grant Sky (and its assignees or successors) a non-exclusive, irrevocable and free-of-charge licence, valid worldwide and for the maximum duration established by the regulations applicable to copyright matters, regarding the right to utilize the Photographs and the Videos for the purpose of reproduction and playback in the context of the Programme and for the purpose of the utilization of the Programme and any other audio-visual work, event or product related to the Programme and/or the Contest, as it is better specified in the Waiver. Every photograph used by Sky may display the name of its author. The Photographs may be freely used for any publication, even by sponsors of the Programme or Sky. All the Candidates accept that any Photograph or Video presented in view of the participation the Contest can be used by Sky, even free of charge, for promotional and marketing purposes on every platform, including the promos, teasers, television programmes, exhibitions and digital media and prints that are directly connected to the Contest. Neither Sky nor the Sky Group shall assume any responsibility for the Photographs and the Videos submitted during the Casting stage or throughout the Programme, regardless of whether they violate current rules, including for example the rules regarding copyright and intellectual ownership, rules regarding the protection of personal data and those regarding unfair competition (“Regulation”).
We’re in no way able to offer legal advice, but the tiny brains that make up Phogotraphy interpret the above as usage for the soul purpose of the show the images are being created for. Most importantly you will retain the rights to any photograph you submit or take as part of the programme.
You’ve only got a few days left to enter, so get on it now before you miss your chance!
